WITH THE ENEMY.

AUSTRO-GERMAN DISAGREEMENT. THE NEW PEACE MOVES, GERMANY'S CHANGE OF FRONT'. (By Cable—Association —Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received April Bth, 7.55 p.m.) LONDON, April 7. The "Morning Post" Amsterdam correspondent states that the goneral impression in Holland is that some disagreement has arisen between Austria and Germany regarding tho fresh peace move. Tho "Lokal Anzeiger" on Monday announced, semi-officially, that Germany would co-operate with Austria with a new proposal on the lines of the interview with the Premier, Count Czermin. Now the "Koelnische Zeitung" denies the report, adding merely: "Germany is still willing to enter into negotiations for an honourable peace." It is believed here that both announcements represented tho official German view when made. Germany hoped that the first report would induce Congress at Washington to insist on a modified war policy, but President Wilson's address destroyed the hope. Germany then disavowed her intention, fearing to indicate weakness. The conference between Dr. Beth-mann-Hollweg and Count Czernim. has ended. ALSATIANS FIGHT FOR FRANCE. Admiralty per Wireless Press. BERNE, April 6. The Minister of War informed the Budget Committee in the Reichstag that since tho outset of hostilities 80 per cent, of the Alsatians mobolised in the German army had deserted. It was estimated that there were 20,000 Alsatian-German subjects now fighting for France. Eveiy woman in receipt of public relief in the Hamburg district is compelled to do six hours' agricultural work daily.
