BOXING.
NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL. The annual general meeting of tho New Zealand Boxing Council was held last week, ilr S. K. Evans presiding The annual report stated that the coining season shows every prospect of being as barren of results as the on© just closed, owing to the depletion in the ranks of boxers caused by the war. In view of the position all local championship tournaments had been abandoned, as wero consequently the New Zealand and the Australasian championahio meetings. Practically all the eligible boxers -who were regular competitora before the outbreak of the war had joined the forces. Some had returned and had been diecharged; others had made tho supreme sacrifice. Amongst thoee who had recently given their lives for King and country were several well known throughout the Dominion for their sterling performances in the ring, notably Norman Bennetts (New Zealand and Australasian feather-weight champion. 1913), S. F. (Pat) Monaghan Qfew Zealand middle-weight champion, 1904 1*12) and Alfred Gault (New Zealand lightweight professional champion, 1912).
