MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.
On Thursday Mr George Scott, at present a momber of the City Council, who was selected as ono of the Citizens' Association's candidates, wrote to Mr J. A. Fieshcr, the chairman of the Association, stating that as his son, Mr P. R. Scott, has decided to leave for tho front, ho regretted having to withdraw from tho contest for the City Council. Mr Scott added that his son's departure means additional work for him, and in the circumstances ho could not give the necessary time for civic affairs. It is understood that Mr P. R. Climie has consented to nomination on tho Citizens' Association's ticket in place of Mr Scott. On Thursday afternoon Messrs W. J. Lawson and A. E. Campbell wero nominated as candidates for the Sumner Borough Council. THE DUTY OF VOTING. TO THE EDITOR Of "THE PRESS." Sir, —There has always been one undesirable feature in connexion with our local elections that may with a little forethought be avoided. I refer to the absence from the city on polling day of many electors who, from want- of thought, make engagements that preclude their attendance on polling day. There are no doubt cases of enforced absence, but considerable experience convinces me that in a large number of instances votes could be recorded that are trstiallv lost.— Yours, etc., ALPJTA.
