DEPARTING SOLDIERS.

"VARIOUS PRESENTATIONS

On severing his connexion with the j Doyleston School, of which he has been | headmaster for the last two years, Mr C. F. Pratt, who is leaving for camp, was the recipient of a wristlet watch from tho children as an expression of their regard for liim. The presenta- 1 . tiou was made by Mr J. Pearce, chair-, man of the School Committee, who spoke verv highly of the good work Mr l'ratt had' done. Advantage was taken of tho opportunity to extend a welcome to the now master, Mr Itainey. Mr l'ratt was also entertained at a smoke concert by tho residents of Doyleston and surrounding district. Reference was made to tho work Mr Pratt had done as secretary of the Doyleston Athletic Club, tho Osborne Park Committee, and the Ellesmero Aquatic Club. At Chertsey a committee lias been formed to arrange for farewelling soldiers and welcoming homo returned men. Mr "NV. Holland is chairman, and Messrs W. Wilkinson and B. Doig joint secretaries. On Wednesday ovening the first gathering under tho new committee was held in tho Chertsey Hall, ir. order to say farewell to Privates (J. Ellen and R. Stewart, who were down on final leave. On behalf of their many friends Mr W. Holland presented each man with a case of pipes. Musical items were contributed by Mrs L. Halliday, Mrs R. Croy, Misses 13. Downie, 0. Downie, and T. Behrns, and Private Kilen and Messrs W. Halliday and F. Ironside. The music for the dance was provided by Mr J. .Behrns and Misses B. Downie and T. Behrns. Mr W. Holland acted as M.C. Private Adams, a returned soldier who was present, was heartily ehcercd. On Tuesday at the Ivaiapoi District High School, Mr D. A. McKeown, of tho teaching staff, who is leaving for camp, was the recipient of a ca.se of pines and tobacco-pouch from the senior scholars. Tho presentation wa s made by Leslie Hoskin,. one of the senior pupils, who expressed appreciation of Mr MeKnonn's assistance to the pupils j under him. Mr McKeown was also I presented by tho members of the teaeh- | itig staff with a wristlet watch.
