HARBOUR BOARD.
YESTERDAY'S MEETINGS,
The adjourned annual meeting of the Lyttelton Harbour Board was held yesterday. Present? —Messrs M. J. Miller (chairman), and H. Friedlander, H. F. Nicoll, F. Horrell, J. Storry, T. D. Boag, J. J. Graham, G. Scott, R. M. Speirs, C. Allison, A. Kaye, Dr. Thacker, M.P., and the Hon. It. Moore. The chairman's annual report (already published), being taken as read, the chairman moved: —"That the accounts of the Lyttelton Harbour Board as balanced and audited to 31st December, 191(3, and certified by tho Controller and Auditor-GeneraJ, bo adopts ed and certified under the hand: of the chairman of the Board, and that the reports and statements be reoeived." In doing so, he said that the Board's accumulated sinking fund now ' totalled £97,826 against total liabilities of £163,513. On these figures he thought 'that if the Board continued its present policy, then by the time their larger loans became clue they would be in a jx>sition to meet them in full. The working of the harbour was now very satisfactory, and, the largest vessels were now taken in and out practically without regard to the tide. Mr A. Kaye seconded tho motion, which, after a brief discussion, was carried. The ordinary meeting of the Harbour Board was then held. The Financo Committee recommended that the question of re-invest-ing £20,000. in tho purchase of the Board's 6 per cent, debentures be refered to a special committee consisting of Messrs "Kaye, Friedlapder, and Moore, with power to act. The Lyttelton . Borough Council wrote, asking that tho Board carry out certain works at Corsair Bay at tho Council's expense. —Agreed to. Tho National .Efficiency Board wrote, asking that the Board's engineer should report on any mattery in 'connexion with the Board's works which would tend to increased efficiency in the Lyttelton Harbour Board District. —Mr Graham moved that the engineer draw up a reoort to bo submitted to tho Harbour ~ Improvement Committee. This was agreed to. The statutory annual meeting for he election of a chairman after tho elections on April 25th was fixed for May 2nd, at 11 a.m. A vote of thanks to the chairman'on tho conclusion of the last meeting of his year of office was carried.
