At yesterday's meeting of the Lyttelton Harbour Board a motion of condolence with the relatives of the late Mr John Childs, an old employee of the Board, was passed. At a meeting of her supporters last evening, Mrs Catlierino M. Green announced her intention to seek re-elec-tion to the Hospital Board as an Independent candidate. At tho special law professional examination in March, the following passed in tho subject named—Cliristchurch Centre, Ernest Leslio Walfon, in Property II At yesterday's meeting sf the Lvttelton Harbour Board letters were received from Sir James Allen and Sir John Denniston, thanking the Board for their congratulations on the honours conferred on them. Before the business of tho meeting of tlie South Waimakariri River Board was proceeded with, yesterday, a motion of condolence with the, relatives of the late Mr W. E. Samuels, a former member of tho Board, was moved by tho chairman (Mr "\V. P. Spencer) and agreed to, members standing. Tho commercial staff of the Lyttelton Times Co. met yesterday to say "good-byo" to Private P. Pavitt, for many years advertising clerk to tho company, who is on final leave. In handing Private Pavitt a wristlet watch and a soldier's knife the manager (Mr F. E. Hyman) expressed the admiration of the staff at tho sacrifice that Private Pavitt was making in going to the front. A further batch of twelve girls from the local telegraph school have been promoted and transferred to tho following offices:—Misses A. M. Kitto, Palmerston North; E. Corcoran, Hastings; I. Higgs, Masterton; A. M. Darragh, Hawera; I. L. E. Hull, Feilding; B. M. Richards, Taihapc; E. L. Doubleday, Stratford; 0. J. S. Mooney, Waverloy; 15. M. Roche, Eltham; A. IX Steel, Eketahuna; L. Pollard, Dannevirke; M. E.. Riordan, Marton. The resignation of Mr R. H. Arlow, assistant secretary and • treasurer, was received at yesterday's meeting of tho Lyttelton Harbour Board. After consideration of the matter in committee it was reported that the resignation had been r/ecpted. and that it had been decide-:'. ive Mr Arlow a presentation o. ■ :> of rr.rmey, but in response to . ixestion from a member of tho BoarJ. tho chairman did not report tlie amount to tho Board. Mr Arlow lias been in the employ of the Board for 15 years, and is now leaving the Board to join the firm of Robert Arlow, Limited, as manager for the Canterbury District.
