The members present at the monthly meeting of the Ellesmerc County Council, held at Loeston on Monday, were Crs. J. Cunningham T. A. .Stephens, J. Storry, P. J. !mon. and James Quiglev. I An application from the Lakeside Hall I Committer for perraifaion to take shinglo I from Hall's pit for the foundations of the new Soldiers.' Memorial Hall, to be built of brick. was planted, no royalty to be charged. Letters were received from the Department of Internal Affairs aud the Ellesmere Lands Drainage Board with respect to the proposal to extend the boundaries of the drainage The Council agreed that it was ■unnecessary to take any action. The Public Works Department approved the expenditure of a grant of JETS for metal'injr Lake road, leading from Irwell towards j Dunsandel. largely used by through motor ■ traffic. ' The Xational Efficiency Board wrote urging the reduction of works to Teleasc labourer?, and to tuakc us? of female labour M'herever possible. It was decided to inform the Board that the matter would be carcrully considered when the estimates were being prepared for the current vear. I — MALYEKN. At the monthly meeting of the Malvern County Council, held on Tuesday, correspondence was received from the Ekctahunu County Council regarding cold storage. The letter was received, the matter being outside the scopc of local bodies. The Xational Efficiency Board wrote with regard to works and labour throughout the district. It was agreed to reply that no now work was proposed, and that "the supply of labour was barely sufficient for maintenance upkeep and repairs. The Department of Internal Affair* wrote regarding Anzac Day. The matter was referred to tin- ministers oi religion and patriotic societies. The Treniham Military Cpmp authorities wrote asking- for assistance to provide requisites for the comfort and entertainment of til" 23rd lieinforcements during the voyage. The request w,i« declined, as being outside the scope of loeal bodies. The caretaker? reported on the shortage of water during the past month. The 6Upply in the river was very low. and the shortage in manv cases was accentuated by the very dirty condition o: racos. The difficulty in obtaining labour vac mainly resnonsible for this, but not in all cases. Through Cr. . Cullen's action, a good supply was obtained in the Hawkins and Greendale districts, and a vote of thanks was accorded him for his cS-rts in the matter. In reply to Mr Till, tho county engineer stated that the rump at the Afhburlon bridge, which was now considered too narrow, would hare to be re-arranged when tho old portion of the bridge was taken away. Mr l-ill gave notice of motion to hive the by-lawn with rcs-nect to traction engine and other heavy traffic amended.
