■"P MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. ' The Executive Committee of the Red Cross Fond met yesterday. . Present—Mr Arthur . 73.. G. Rhodes (chairman), Dean Carrington, Messrs J. A. Flcsher, M. J. Gres3on,"H. M. Seevea, H. Holland, and Dr. Mickle. The chairman stated that no reply had been received from the English headquarters . to the enquiry cabled as to whether or not ' certain surgical requisites were required. Ho r referred to the request received from th<> . ' New Zealand headquarters that the Canter- „ bury Military District should contribute the co«t of two motor ambulances, price £950 each, and said that a copy of Colonel Moorhouse's letter had been forwarded to the different sub-centres in the military district. They had in hand £600 towards the cost of ; these ambulances, and' the district was now called upon to find the remainder, £1300. .It was decided to await replies from the Bttbrbranches, and to set up a sub-committee, consisting of the chairman, and Messrs J. A. Flesher and H. Bor.-ker, jun., to deal with the matter. question of insuring goods in transit was referred to the Finance Commit"JJ with power to act. 1 with Red Cros-s work from its inception to the gigantic proportions it had reached in the present war. The chairman (Mr John , IJeans) thanked the speaker for his help, and an adjournment was made to an adjoining room, where the month's work of the South Malvern branch of the Red Cross Society wh laid for inspection. Questions were answered by Miss A. H. Cole and Mrs Smith, cf Christchurch. Supper was provided by the ladies, and at conclusion the audience returned to the main room, where the ordinary business of the branch was proceeded with. The secretary Tead a balance-sheet, showing a crsdit balance of £22 193 4d, and, on the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr J. 11. Pearson, it was decided to contribute £15 to the "Our Day" Fund. As the- committee was not considered large enough, Mrs H. D. Davenport was elected to represent CoaJT>te, and Mr W. Gilmotir GleD-tuunel. There '•°ing no representatives from "Wlutecliffe at the meeting, it was agreed that that district l'fc own candidate. The following additional subscriptions hove been received:—Monthly, "W. Bedford was raffled, and won by Mr \V. Atkinson, who presented it again to tlie Fund, and it realised £5 in £1 bids, and was ; finally sold for £2. A sheep given each by Messrs A. Anderson and Streetcr realised 25s per head. A quantity of farm produce that had been exhibited at the Show was also sold on behalf of the Fund. Mr Adam Smith, of the National Mortgage and Agency Company was the auctioneer. ROLLESTON". The Rolleston Ladies' Patriotic Sowing Guild forwarded the following work to the Red Cross Depot last month:—l 2 day shirts, 6 flannel pants, 9 face-cloths. 18 bottle covers, 6 wringers. 20 med. cloths, 15 h'andk°Tchiefs, 9 dusters, 7 pairs socks, 2 oEHdren's dresses, 2 ladies' aprons, 10 pairs mittens, 6 scarves, 8 balaclavas, 12 pillow-slips, 5 pairs bed socks,' 12 triangular bandages, 18 operation cloths, 14 diet cloths, 2 flannel shirts, 2 children's pinafores. HALSWELL. Following is a list of the work sent in to the Bed Cross depot by the Halswell Red Cross Branch for the months of September and October:—37o manitails, 750 tria.ngulara, 130 Wingers, 360 body binders, 180 slings, 40 toilet squares, 510 roller bandages, 3 scarves, 17 pairs socks, 20 jug covers. CULVER.DEN. This new brancii of the Society promises to be a very energetic one. The articlos sent in for this month are for the bandage department, and consist of 5 1 G Tollers, GOO swabs, and 9 face cloths. Thero are only twenty members, but all are keen workers.
