BOROUGH COUNCILS.

JLKABOA. The fortnightly meeting of the Aiaroa Borough Council was held on Wednesday evening. Present —The Mayor (Mr Geo., Armstrong) and Councillors Noonan, Penlington, Fyfe, Munro, "Williams, Henning, Hayiock, and Cuntrell. Leave of absence wae»granted to Or. C. W. Leete, on •account of ilineea.

The borough, solicitor, Mr T. D. Harm an, wrote with respect to certain electric light maiterß in the borough.—Referred to the Lighting Committee with power to act. Acting upon the advice of its solicitor, tho Council decided to pay owr at oQco to the trustees in the Penlington Estate, th© purchase money far the property to be ueed by tho borough electrician. T» jmswer to the Council's complaint with respect to the Public Weighbridge, the Department of Internal Affairs wrote, stating' that instruction had been given to the Inspector of Weights and Measures to teat the weighbridge to its full capacity. Correspondence was received from tho Stat© Advances Office, Wellington, intimating that a clause in the Act would prevent it from lending money for the purpose required by tha Council. Tli® caretaker of the Municipal Baths asked that some definite arrangement be made with respect to children using the baths.— Referred to Baths Committee with power to act. On the recommendation of the Finance Committee, it was resolved to arrange with /the Bank of Hew Zealand for an overdraft of £2300, a step that would obviate the necessity of negotiating a loan for carrying out extensions and improvement at the Power House. ■ It was stated that the suction gas plant recently purchased from Messrs Booth f Macdonald and Co., had, despite several mishaps, at last reached its destination at the Power House, but it would be .some time before tlio plant was ready for use. Instructions were given to the electrician to overhaul the crane on the Main Wharf. The Works Committee was empowered to purchase another 100 bags cement, this being required to oary on the retaining wall in connexion with the reclamation work at Children's Bay.
