APPEAL TO THE CITY PROPOSED.
MONSTER DEMONSTRATION.
A meeting of Chrietchurch citizens was hold in the City Council Chambers yesterday afternoon to consider a proposal for a further patriotic demonstration, to raise money for the Mayor's Patriotic Fund, on a scheme propounded by Mr G, Battloy.
About a dozen persons were present, all representative members of public bodies and societies. Mr E. Nordon was elected chairman.

Tne. meeting approved the proposals and appointed a committee.
The iuuyor was elected chairman, Mr E. Nordou deputy-cliairman, Mr Battley secretary, Dr. Simpson treasurer, and the following were appointed to the general committee:— Messrs B. Falck' D. Jo.l, S. A. Orchard, 0. Jacobsen, W. E. Inglis, E. Nordon, J. W. Baty, A. Andrews, W. J. Neate, H. Le Compte, H. Glover, J. Warner, G. H. Mason, It. H. Livingstone, C. J. Treleaven, C. W. Hervey, J. J. Dougall, W. R. Gabagan, G. Barclay, J. S. Gowing, E. Davidson, Dr. Simpson, and Dr. Fairman.
It was decided that all money collected be handed to the Mayor's Fund. Dr. Simpson was appointed to arrange with a committee from the Automobile Association to institute a system of '"joy-rides" as part of the demonstration ; half tho proceeds to go to the Automobile Association and the other half to the Mayor's Fund. A procession committee, consisting of Messrs Inglis, Jacobsen, Le Compte, Gahagan, Gould, Falck. and tho secretary was appointed to report to the general committee.
Messrs Hervey, Jenner, S. A. Staples, and T. F. Hall were appointed a band committee.
Other committees appointed were:— Collection: Mrs Holland, Messrs Gould, Orchard, and Nordou; Concert, Messrs .Toll, Vincent, Collins, March, Miller, R. A. Holl, A. Sutton, J. F. Peak, and W. L. Soper: Programme and Advertising, Chairman and secretary, and Messrs Gould. Pollard, Battley. Gahagan, and Falck.
The Rugby Union is to be asked to play a bonefit football match on either August 22nd or 24th.
A general meeting, to which committees will report, will be held on Wednesday next, at 5 p.m. The chairman said he would undertake to find £o 5s for prizes for decorated motor-care in the procession, the prizes to be allotted as tho Automobile Association decided.
All Friendly Societies, Sports' Associations, and other bodies desiring to take" part in the procession are requested to communicate with the eecretary.
