100,000 VOLUNTEERS IN
CANADA
LORD ROBERTS COLONEL-LN-CHIEF OF COLONIALS. VANCOUVER. August 13. It is unofficially stated that 100,000 men volunteered for Canada's army corps, but the strength has been fixed at 20,000. OTTAWA, August 13. "With the object of regulating food prices throughout Canada and to prevent unscrupulous dealers from unduly inflating prices, the Govarnmont intends to paas legislation immediately Parliament meets similar to that already enacted in Groat iiritain. All the Austriau Consuls have been ordered to close their Canadian officos and leave tho country immediately. LONDON, Aueust 13. "Tho Timos," in a loading articlo, says:—' 'By oommon consont the people of tho Dominions oversea have risen in splendid unanimity to tho needs of the moment, when Britain requires all tho help thoy can give her. Their forces will go with eager alacritj whererrer they aro sent."
The official Press Bureau at Home has cahlod to tho Government that Earl Roberts has been, appointed Colonel-in-Chief of the overeoa Dominions' forces. This, it is considered, points to the fact that tbo forces sent by Canada, Australia, and New Zealand will form a separate and distinct section of tho British arms.
