A meeting of the -New Brighton Bar* cash Council was held last ». «»*-? S&r-Tjie Mayor (Mr C. H. '\Vinaiy), Crs- J. Ainger, A. Chidgey, J- f s 0 V Bergo, C- Israelson, I. Ivibblewhite C. Withell, and A. W. Owles. Before taking the ordinary business of the Council, a motion of condolence was passed with the relatives and friendVoTthe late Mr T. W. Edmonds. The Mayor, in speaking to the resolution, referred to the loss tho borougb had sustained by the death of one who had always becu to the foro in all that appertained to ihe welfare of the district. , ~ Correspondence was received from .Mr T. J. Morgan, applying for permission for a Bible Class Association to camp in tho Rawhiti Domain. —Granted. In'rso.y to a letter from the Council in the matter of outgoing tramcars being stopped at George etreet, the Tramway Board stated that it was installing a 'double track between Aidwin's road aud Wainoni, and when this had been given effect to the Council' 6 request would be further considered. In connexion with the Australasian Town-planning Tour, the Town Clerk, Christchurch, wrote that it was estimated that the cost of the Christchurch lectures would be about £So. ■• -New Brighton was asked to contribute its quota, of £3.—Referred to the Finance Committee. The secretary of the New Brighton Beautifying Association made application for a grant of £10. —Referred to the Finance Committee*. A letter from the -North- Brighton Burgesses' Association regarding tne voluntary plantitig of sections Oy property owners in the north of tbe bor- : ough, was referred t-o tne Works Committee. The Finance Committee's report tor the fortnight was as follows: — Receipts £300 9s lv. expenditure -fci*--os 2d; bank balance', deoit £182 2s ?d; deposits, £133-4 3s Gd ; rates outstanding to date, £-101 7s od. ' % Nine building permits were granted during the fortnight, for construction, : valued at £1600. "' ' The Reserves Committee recommended that four acres of land at North Brighton bo leased to Jiducation Board for tho purposes of a side school, at a rental to be agreed upon.—-Adopted. The Mayor reported on the recent Municipal Conference in Wellington. On Cr! .Ainger's motion, it was "resolved that the Finance Committee bring down a* report on the rates to be struck for the current year, at the* next meeting of the Council. Ou Cr. Israelson ! s motion, it was resolved that the report of his Worship the Mayor on the Municipal Conference, and Cr. Ashley's on tramway matters, be received, a vote oj" thanks be accorded them. The matter of improvements to tbe foreshore on the north side of the. pie: * was discussed, and on Cr. Owles's mo tion, it was resolved that the northern er closure be extended northwards and eastwards at a cost of £21 12s.
