Dalziel. Tlie Works Committee recommended that the Council accede to Mr -I. Glynan's application for » culvei-t at St. Jen's street, provided he pays the cost. The Bridge Committee recommended that Mr Barnes, the Heathcote County engineer* 'be asked to preparo plans and specification?- for a brjuge over the Heathcote river at Parkes and Sheldon street's, and that the bridge be placed 4ft 6in above high-water irian*: The report was adopted. A report by the Finance Committee showed the receipts since last meeting to be £79 12s. The Council have a debit balance of £139 Is 9d. On temporary loans there was also a debit of £1075 19s Bd. The Finance Committee recommend--ed that a grant of £5 be made to the .Qhristchurcli Canal' League, -in "re-, sponse to its appeal for assistance. The Christchurch City Council wrote stating that owing to telephone poles bfiing erected on tho city sido of the boundary, :<- became necessary that the tramway poles be erected ou the borough side, and asking permission to do this! Permission ' was granted to erect pole in Ensor's road, provided the Council have the right -to use the .poles •'at a* future time. No permission was granted for AJdwiu's road 7 the Council suggesting that the Tramway Board be approached tor . the use of their poles. , " • A '.letter from the Acting Pistrici Engineer for Railway*, stated that the discharge *of by-products from / the railway gasworks into the side-channels had beon remedied and would not occur in future. '

Mr H. G. Ell, M.P., pressed the claims of the Summit Road Association for financial assistance.—Referred to the Finance Committee. Incidentally the letter stated that nearly 200 acres between Hoon Hay Valley and Cass's Peak and other reserves had been secured.

"Mr John Richardson informed the Council by letter, that the "Drainage Board bad decided to widen -the bridge over Bell's Creek, Richardson terrace, at a cost, it estimated, of £80, pf which the WooVau Council's shard would be'£B-1.

The Glecmoro Brick aud Tile Company's tender for the *Ol}ply of, road metal was accepted. The company offered to supply metal on the south sjde'of Ferry road at 6s per yard, and at '■'&& Qd per yard in all other parts of the borough. ' ' The Mayor brought up' the matter of a new or improved railway station for Woolston. He said that ho considered'the" borough was now of sufficient importance to warrant a much improve ed station, and there was sufficient traffic to merit the creation or a goods shed. On the motion of tbo Mayor, if was decided to ask thai Government to consider the que*>tiori of enlarging arid bringing up to date the Woolston station, and xo ask the assistance of the Heathcote Comity' Council and the member for the district.
