(PKEBS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAMS.) • TAUMARUNDI, August 3. Robert Davis, a married man, wb« had been drinking heavay,. and wbohad previously attempted suicide, threw himself under a train close to Taumarnnui on Saturday night and was killed. His body was torn to pieces. At th« inquest a verdict of suicide- whilo temporarily insane was returned. GORJS, August-3. James Ewart, 23 years of age* a farm labourer, belonging to \Vaikaka Valley, was drowned this afternoon whilo attemptinjg to cross a stream, driving ono horse. His companion refused to cross with him. Ewart had almost reached the other bank, when he appeared to pull tho horse back.into tne stream. He could not swim, and his companion was unable to rescue him. It is believed that Ewart's brother resides at Ashburton. DUNEDIN, August 3. ' An inquest was hold to-day at Port! Chalmers, touching the death of Hugh: Mac Arthur", on Sunday, from burns. The evidence showed'that on the previous evening Mrs Wolsey7housekieeper| at Chick's Hotel, heard groans coming; from the room occupied by deceased,! but on attempting to enter, found that! the smoke was'too dense. The room wasl not usually occupied, but MacArthurj was allowed to sleep there on Sunday! night. Deceased was got out after somo] troublo by Peter Robertson, the bar-j man. Medical attention was procured, 1 and deceased was sent to the Dunedin Hospital, but was so severely hurt that he died. A formal verdict was returned.'
