LYTTELTON BOROUGH ' COUNCIL RESOLUTION.
At last night's meeting of the Lyttelton Borough Council,- the Mayor (Mr J. R. Webb) made reference to the present European crisis, and the action of the New Zealand Government "in offering assistance to Britain. He. said that he thought "the Council should offer the Government its heartiest; support of their actions in connexion with the present critical' period, and. should back up those in .authority. He" was sure that all would feel sympathy with those brought into. conflict. He deplored war, with its awful sufferings, and trusted that everything" possibie would be done to stop bitter leelings arising, and that the Council would prevent the ' fostering of a jingoistic spirit, and sot a good example to those around them. »
Cr. Miller said that, as patriots, they should support the action of the Prime Minister. He was glad to see that Now Zealand's offer to the Empire had been the first to be made. He moved: "That the Council expresses approval at the action of the Government, and offers its hearty support in any further
action that might-te deemed necessary. : n the present crisis." • ■. '* This was seconded by Cr. Guthrie and carried, the Council rising and singing tn e National Anthem.
