Sir Richard Cooper, M.P., president of the Commercial Travellers' Association, in his presidential address at Birmingham, said that from practical busi- ■ vesa experience ho could feel a genuine sympathy with tho members cf the As--soenrtion Ho had been schooled to &ome'extent in the art of. the profession, and he bad experienced somo of the rough and tumble of the life of tbo men on tho road. Speaking as a traveller by i*ail and eca, ho said, "in epite of all • -the science brought to bear in .the building of ships, and in spite of tho ingenuity of man, they must all recognise tliat v the human element was paramount in all things. Was there any walk- in life in which* the human element was of ' moro importance than in the calline of the*commercial traveller? They had to regret that there was not that direct "; interest and touch' war;- ».io principals ■ , 'of a coricem that there used to.be.
