DEFENCE DEPARTMENT TAKES CONTROL.

WELLINGTON, August 3. ' The Harbourmaster has been informed that the Defence Department will to-day take over complete control of the \Vellington harbour.' All foreignowned ships will be stopped, and other shipping will have to receive official permission before entering or leaving the port. ' General Godley, interviewed, said the examination of service vessels would be put.into force merely as a precautionary measure.
