LITTLE RIVER.

What «-as undoubtedly the host fancy dress ball ewr held in tho district took place in the Town Hall on Friday night. There was a very large number present. No one was allowed on the floor unless in fancy costume, and the floor was crowded for the Grand March and the following dances. Prizes Were given for tho best ladies' and gentlemen's costumes, and were won as follow: — Ladies: Mrs Newton, "Topsy," 1, Miss Roden, "Billiards," 2; Mrs Fred. Joblin. "Maori Girl" 3. Gentlemen: Mr McKenzie, "Indian Raja?)/' 1; Mr Percy Birdling, "Cowboy," 2. Mr Parkinson, in presenting tho prizes, stated that the judges had great difficulty in allotting them, as so many of the characters were almost of equal merit. The tvrizes were given by the Hon. R. H. Rhodes, M.P.", Mr Armstrong, Mr Montgomery. Mrs J. F. Buchanan, and Mr J. F. Buchanan.
