PAPARUA.

The last monthly meeting m the Paparua County " Council was attended by Messrs ,Jame= Leslie (chairman). Paterson, Hcnlev. Stone, . v'n Watson, and Sandrey. Mr McCarthy wns granted leave

of absenco on account of, ill-health. The North Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrote giving the amount of money required as tho Council's share of hospital expenses as £1145 7s sd, being an increase over last year's levy of £100 0s Gd. A circular letter was received from the Waimairi County Council regarding tho contribution demanded by the Christchurch Domain Board from outlying counties, and protesting against the method of allocation. It was decided to suggest tho desirability of calling a moetiug of outside contributory bodies to decide on a course of action. . The secretary of the Prebbleton Domain Board wrote with reference to the approach to the main entrance to. the Domain. It was reported that tho ground just inside the Domain gate was considerably below the level of tho footpath, and that any material used in building up the footpath was carried into the hole by sheep. It was decided to reply that if the Domain Board filled up the hole inside the gate, the Council would attend to the footpath; and, if pipes wero supplied for the water table, tho Council would place them in position. The clerk's report stated that repairs to the road near tho Weodons and Rolleston railway stations, and also to the Hlalkett road, in the West Melton riding were in progress. During the month the cleaning of the drains in the Ladbrooks riding had fortunately, been completed. The deepening of McGough's drain had considerably relieved the congestion of water on tbo Pram road, and these two drains seemed to be capable, during the bad weather, of dealing with all the water. Tho Drain road, Ladbrooks, had been patched during the month, and the crusher was started in tho Prebbleton. pit. Replies having been received from all tho county councils circularised Tβcarding the formation of a South Island or Canterbury Counties' Association, it was decided to call a meeting of delegates on August oth to discuss the matter.
