PAKAPOO LOTTERIES.
(pbws association - txlegxam.) WELLINGTON. June 5. Various prosecutions have been made recently against Chinese for carrying on pakapoo lotteries, but hitherto great difficulty has been experienced in getting hold of the "bankers." One of the alleged principal men engaged in these lotteries, named Ah Gee, aged about 50 years, was charged at the Magistrate's Court to-day, before Mr D. G. A. Cooper, S.M.. with having commenced a lottery in Haining street or .March 22nd. After hearinc a ereat deal of evidence the Magistrate imposed a fine of £35 and costs. An appeal is probable.
