WOMEN'S POLITICAL REFORM LEAGUE.
ANNUAL MEETING OF CANTERBURY BRANCH. .
Great interest was shown, in the annual meeting of the Canterbury Branch of the .Women's Political Reform League, held on Thursday night at the Cadena Rooms. Mrs Haslarn presided over, an attendance that exceeded three hundred. The annual report, dealing with a period of eight months, referred to the addresses given during the year by Messrs A. Dudley Dobson, City Surveyor and Engineer, Henry Broadhead, tho Hon. F. M. B. Fisher, Mr A. S. Malcolm, M.P., and by Mesdames Hadfiold and Earle, of Wellington. The membership had increased from 330 to 435. The sub-branches had done good work, and tho secretaries wero congratulated on the results attained. With reference to the Avon sub-branch, it was stated that the members wore busy in connexion with the candidature of Mr H. D. Acland, the Reform Party's selected candidate. Tho valuable services given to the League by Mrs Neavo and Miss M. E. Trent who, from business reasons, found it neces,sary to resign tho position of honorary organising secretary, were appreciatively referred, to, as was also the assistance si yon by Messrs David Jones, H. D, Acland, and E. C. Huie. The balance-sheet, showing a substantial balance to credit, was also submitted. The report and balance-sheet were ; adopted. The electron of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—President, Mrs Rolleston; vice-presidents, Mrs Nicholls and Mrs Acland; hon. secretary, Mrs Hennah; hon. treasurer. Mrs Acland; committee, Mrs Huie, Miss Stoddort, Mrs Stewart, and Mrs Brittain. Mrs Haslam was elected as delegate to the annual conference, and was also made a life member of the branch. Mrs Rolleston, the newly-elected president, referred in eulogistic terms to tho services given to the League by Mrs Haslam, the retiring president, and said that Mrs Haslam did not spare herself in forwarding the interests of tho League. Mrs Rolleston moved a motion placing on record the League's appreciation of Mrs Haslam's services. Mrs Soth-Smith seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously by acclamation. Reference was made to the approaching general elections, and the hope was expressed that members would prepare thmselves for the campaign as there would be plenty of work to do. It is intended to put in hand at once the preparations for the election campaign.
