AKAKOA

. Tho fortnightly meeting of tho Aka~ roa Council was held on \\ ednesuay." Present —The Mayor (Mr G. Armstrong), and Crs. Lewitt, Walker. Canned, Munro, and Leete. Tue returning olhcer reported that Messrs C. Freuericksea and W. Williams had been elected to rill !the two extraordinary vacancies on tho Council.

The Municipal Association stated that a conference oi" delegates would bo held on July 14th, and asked that remits and name of the Council's delegate be forwarded. It was resolved that the Mayor represent the Council. The _\ortn Canterbury H<>spital and Charitable Aid Board notified that the Council's contribution for ±ho year wouid bo £67 10s.

The Akaroa Dairy Company forwarded plans and specifications of the new factory, and requested permission to stack shingle on tho road. —Referred to Works Committee.

Tho Works Committee reported having considered an application from St. Peter's Church wostry for a rebate of tho water-rate, but could not recommend its reduction.

Cr. Walker was elected chairman of tho Works Committee. Cr. Fredericksen's name was added to the Works, Sanitary, and Waterworks Committees, and that of Cr., Williams to the Lighting, Finance, and Reserves Committees.

It was resolved to erect another transmission wire from the power house along tho Esplanade, the present wire being overloaded; aiso that the drain pipes bo immediately placed in the Recreation Ground, and that the tennis court in tho Domain /be finished as soon as nossible.

The engineer roported that Daly's wharf had been completed, and recommended that tho balance of the contract account be paid. It was resolved to sue for all outstanding water-rates.

The Council will meet on Wednesday next for the purpose of framing .estimates for the year.
