MURDER CHARGE FAILS
SORDID REVELATIONS. (By Cable.—Press Association.— Copyright.) (Received June 4th, 9.5 p.m.) SYDNEY. June 4. Jean Clark Rankin, an ex-barmaid,, was acquittod on a charge of'wounding Gilbert Irvine with intent to commit murder on March Bth. The evidence showed that Irvino was separated from his wife, and that certain relations had existed between him and Rankin for a considerable timo. Rankin, in her evidence, said she did not know that Irvino tvae a married man. After deceiving her ho promised her marriage. She propared for the weddingi and he lent her money.
Irvino denied that he had promised her marriogo, and dec'ared that she had attempted to extort money from him.

Tho Judge, in a scathing snmmingup, characterised Irvino as a blackguard. He was even worse, but his bad conduct did not justify the shooting. If the jury considered t?iat accused's mind at the timo of the shooting was not undor proper control, they should acquit her.
