THE NEXT BAND CONTEST.
TO BE HELD IN CHRISTCHURCH
Tho question of holding the next annual contest of the South Island Bands , Association in Christchurch was considered at a public meeting in tho Council Chambers last night. There was a fair attendance, tho Mayor (Mr H. Holland) presiding.
After a brief discussion it was decided on tho raotiou of Captain S. M. McGee, seconded by Mr J. Staploton, that tho next band contest of the South Island .Association be- held in Christchurch absut the end of October.
The Mayor wae asked to act as chairman, and he ex lamed that owing to the great demand on hie ,time be could not do justice to the position. It was decided to ask Dr. Thacker to tako tiie position of chairman. The following were appointed a general committee:—Dr. H. T. J. fhackei, Captain S. M. McGee, Messrs C. Oakes, W. Wooley, T. F. Hall. H. Burson, S. A. Staples. F. Shaw, Welle. Newton. Sweney. C. W. Hervev. W. *. Stewe. J. Stapleton, W. Sullivan, G. Whitford, and W. Oliver. , Mr. G. W. Jonner was appointed secretar- and Mr. T. F. Hall treasurer. After somo discussion it was deaded to hold over the fixing of * he Q at ? of tho contest until it was ascertained whether the services of the judge appointed for tho Ballarat contest could be eeeurod. „ _ Messrs Jenner, "Webley, Hall, bweney and Oakes were appointed a snb-oom-mittce to select tho music for the con°Mr. Hall brouglit tip tho onestion of finance and montioned that tho expenses of the previous contest hold in Christchurch bad to over £700. The matter of obtaining quart antors was referred, to the sub-com-mittee. .
