There was a heavy fall of sleet shortly before three o'clock, and the rain was practically continuou-s till after six o'clock. Later in the evening it stopped and the weather gave indications of clearing. The tramway traffic to the Canterbury Purk Club's trotting meeting at Plutupton 'Park showed au increase a.. compared with the traffic for the corresponding fixture last year, 15 carloads being .conveyed yesterday as compared with 02 last year. From the tramway authorities' point of view th«. rain made matters rather awkward, as many on the track wanted to leavo at two o'clock. Cars wero hurried out, and after the first rush was dealt with no difficulty was experienced in coping with the traffic. The loadings to the seaside resorts, owing to the unsettled state of the weather in tbe raornins, were l:zbt. The traffic to Cashmere ITilLs in the moruins. was good.
