9 . RELIGIOUS PROCESSION ASSAILED. . ("Time*" and "Sydney Sua" Serrieea. . LONDON, June 2. Tho Whit-Monday procession of Catholic guilds, at Preston, was refused permission to carry a statue of the Madonna and Child. Tho procession persisted in carrying tho statue, believing that they had legal rights to do so. A crowd surged round, and oranges, eggs, and stones were thrown. A man tried to overthrow the statue and was knocked down. Cries of "Booh! booh!" were drownei in an enthusiastic demonstration by tlio majority of tho spectators.
