Reid took the first corner for tho home team, but although nicely sent across, it was cleared- Reid again showed fine form, and Ward was presented with a good opening, but his shot was well covered by Morton, who was hurt in clearing. A good run up the field by Ward, who centred, found Norman mulling his middle by Grant, who was handy, and scored wi.h a good cross-shot. A spell of pressing by Westland followed, but the home backs were safe. Ross was playing well in the centre-half position for the visitors Keeping the ball swinging about, Westland were having a full share of the game until Anderson was penalised for off-side. A fine run on the home team's left found Wallace alert, and ho was not giving anything away. Johnson initiated a smart passing run. which was nullified by a wet ball causing a pass to go astray. Norman should ne.eabouts have scored two good chances, but his efforts were weak. Cromptou was playing well at right-half for the visitors, and they were showing glimpses of good football. Grant tried another shot, but Morton was proving himself a safe custodian. Fullarton essayed a solo run, but was stopped by Ross. Bennett was kept busy, three shotk. in rapid succession being fired in, bdt he was well in the picture. Clay and Bissett combined nicely 2 and the latter player scored a beautiful goal with a first time shot. Resuming,, Baker cleared the home lines with a high kick. Fullarton was conspicuous, and dribbled past tho opposition before transferring to Norman. A snell of pressing by Canterbury was relieved by Johnson getting awaY, but Ward was sent away on a good wing run, and terrific pressure was set u_y>n the visitors' Ifne, hut proved abortive. At ' half-time the .scores stood:—Canterbury 2, West-' lar-. 0.

Tha home team's combination was far superior to the visitors, and a good understanding existed amon. the whole team. The atrocious weather was putting a damper on all present. Grant wa_ showinc, up well, and a fast hi'.h shot from him found the net. ' A discussion here ensued, the Westland team within l .; to quit the field on account of tha- conditions, but commonsense prevailed, and the game was resumed, Westland boinc; three players phort: Playing the ono back game, Bissett broke away, and a fine run half the length of the field found ; him _ piscine. tha ball in Morton's hands with his final effort.
