WELLINGTON, June 3. About 2 o'clock this afternoon a drowning accident happened in Evans's Ba>. an elderly man named John Lloyd losing his life. Lloyd, with three other men, was sailing a skiff, when it capsized. The three men scrambled on to the bottom of the boat, hut Lloyd, got entangled iv tho rigging, though efforts were made to get him to safety. A boat manned by employees of the Patent Slip Company put off to rescue tbe men, and succeeded in bringinp them ashore. Efforts were at once made to resuscitate Lloyd, but they wero not successful, and when a doctor arrived he could only pronounce life to bo extinct. Lloyd was a married man, his wife residing in Hiropi street. He was employed at Hudson's brick works. AUCKLAND. June 3. A 6teward, named C. Bain, employed >n tho steamer Monowai. was irowned in the harbour last light. Bain is supposed to have fallen .verboard while attempting to jump on _oard as the vessel was moving from ler berth, as cries for help were heard. 4. search was made under the w_ta_rf, mt there wa3 no trace of the man. _ator a tweed can, belonging to Bain, ras found floating in the locality, .am's body was recovered this mcrnng. At the inquest a verdict of accilental death was returned.
