PUBLIC SERVICE ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of tho General Committee of the Canterbury branch of the Public Service Association was held on Monday evening. In tho absenco of Mr H. S. Cordery, through illness, Mr G. W. Coutts Moon was voted to the chair. Mr G. Russell, secretary to the branch, tendered his resignation, as his official duties made it extremely difficult for him to give the work the necessary attention. It was resolved to request him to withdraw the resignation until after the annual meeting, and in ! the meantime arrangements were made to give him assistance in overtaking tho arrears of work. The question of overtime in Government departments was brought, up. and it was pointed out that in some offices the staff were required to do a great deal of night work without any remuneration, and it was ultimately" decided to request the executive to bring the matter under the notice of tho Public Service Commissioners. It .was decided to recommend the incoming committee to appoint assistant secretaries to carry out tho work of tho different sections in order to leave the general secretary at liberty to atteud to the financial portion and correspondence, and also to suggest to the annual meeting to appoint a treasurer. The matter of the social rooms promised by the Commissioners waa brought up, and it was reported that no answers had been received to recent correspondence. It was resolved to again write to the Commissioners, and urge that rooms should be provided.
