MEETING OF COMMITTEE,
A meeting of the committee of the Society for tho Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held last night. Present —Messrs H.- ft. Bridge (chairman), G. Lough, D. McLaren, W. J. Trustturn, J. W, Watson, J. Spiller, E. H. Cross, and Mesdames Cross, Atkinson, and Turner.
Before tho business was dealt with the. chairman referred to tho death of their late president, Mrs A. Q. Townend, who had done so much for the Society by her beneficent gifts and enthusiasm, without which they could not have accomplished what they had. The Society bad benefited to the extent :.f £5000 by her death, but this could not replace her presence, which was always felt. Ho moved a motion "That file Society express its deepest -sorrow at Mrs Townond's death."
The motion was carried in silence, members standing.
Mr R. A. Chamberland, Bealev aventio, forwarded £1 for the general fund. —Received with thanks.
Messrs Wynn-Williams. Brown, and Gresson wrote, stating that Mrs Townend had bequeathed £5000 to the Society, and asked that a reprojentatire interview them as to its investment. The inspector (Mr R. K. Wier) reported several caws of cruelty in Christchurch during tbe month, 'but fortunitely no prosecutions would follow as all the offenders had taken his advice.
