(Received Juno 2nd, 1.5 a.m.) SYDNEY, June 1. A crisis on tho Maitland Coalfields appears to bo inevitable. A notice was posted at tho pits that unles. the men workod the afternoon shift to-day, the mines would bo closed down. Tho men employed in the Greta pit did not work the afternoon shift today, and those in other collieries appear to be equally determined not to do so-. It is almost certain that these pits will be closed down to-morrow, throwing idle nearly 4000 men. Tho executive of tho Minors' Federation is not advising tho men in the matter, but is leaving them to fight their own battle. An attempt will be mado to confino tho trouble to the Maitiand field.
