- Th« usual "theatre" meeting of tho YM.C.A. was held in tho Otobo T.itatre yesterday evening, and was well attended. _lr T. M. Charters gave r. solo, and tho Rev. J oka Mackenxio spoke, tskmg as his subject "A Strong.Man." ... - The- monthly mecling of the Canterbury Christian Endeavour Union was held oa Thursday, .night, the Rev. A. N. Scotter presiding. Tho re-ignition of a vie_-pies:dcnt, Hr L. W. VoUcr, was received, and after consideration it was -wided not 4o accept it. Tho Rev. J. J. North wrote- «rt_tuig, that hs oould not possibly addrcse tho C.E. rally on Juuo 9lh. Word was also received that tho Oxford terrace Schoolroom was engaged for tbat evening, so tko effer of tho Trinity Church, of the ue© oi its -choolroom was accepted, Tbo topic of address for tho rally was altered from "The attitude of the Churches to tho C.E," to "The relation between the Church and the C.E.," * v - •* dress to bo given, by the Rev. Mr Metson. Iv was decided to issuo invitations to all minist-ere to- attend. •',,,,•/-.'*> Ths weekly meeting of tbo V.M.C.A. Dcbati_R Club -was held on Saturday night. Mr H. i_ Plimeoll pieaidins over an attendanoe of fifty-six. including a number of ladies. Seven. new members were elected. Tbo subject for tho evening was a debate entitled ""Should Compulsory Military Training be Abolished is New _<a!and?' Mr J. ': Caughley, M.A., acted a_ judge. if«as~ C : MacDougall, F. J. Hulston, sad A. Burt j support-ed t~o affirmative, and "^J**™., AHolden, W. T. Connibear, and W. J. Wuson spoke for tbo nejgath-c Mr Caughley, in giving- bis decirion,' ii« various speaker- on their weak points, sad gavo tnucb useful advioe on public speaking. He I awarded 17- points to tbe side, I MscDougail, and 160 to tits eroo led by !fc Hclden. :
