MR LESLIE LILLY SAFE.
Fears for the safety of a well-known New Zealander, Mr Leslie Lilly, who it was thought was a passenger* by the Empress of Ireland, were set at" rest yesterday by tho receipt of a cable message sent by him from Montreal. Hir; brother, Mr Arthur Lilly, late organist nt St. Luke's Church, Christchurch. states that Mr Leslie Lilly was travelling representative of Messrs Smith and Lister, silk merchants, of London, -n Eastern Canada and United States. In the last letter received from him by his brother, ho stated his intention of lpavin<r last week on his return to .Liverpool in tho ill-fate 1 ship, but tlie cable message stated that he was prevented by'business" arrangements from joining the steamer last Friday, as ho had intended.
