. *. ,—. THE FIRST FLYING MACHINE A SUCCESSFUL FLIGHT. (By Cable.—Press AosociAtion.—Copyright) NEW T YORK, May 29. Mr Glenn Curtis aeroplaned successfully a short distance with Dr. Samuel P. Langley's flying machino, invented years beforo aerial flight was thought practicable. Mr Curtis flew a short distance, and alighted safely. ' Dr. Langley claimed that he had discovered tho secret of flight, but everybody ridiculed him,, calling the machine "Langley's Folly." The machine was preserved for years in the Smithsonian Institute.
