Dr. W., B. Gow, superintendent of Sunnysido Mental Hospital, returned from Wellington by tho Maori yesterday morning.
Captain J. Bono, Marino Superintendent for tho New Zealand Shipping Company, Ltd., returned from Auckland yesterday morning.
Captain J. B: Rainoy, Marino-Super-intendent in New Zealand for tho Commonwealth and Dominion Lino, arrived from Wellington by tho Maori yesterday raornins. ,
Mr D. C. Bates, Government Meteorologist, left Wellington for Sydney by the'Maunganui last night." He intends to have a conference with the Commonwealth Meteorologist' aud tho wireless authorities regarding tho establishment of a moro complete system of weathor reporting by wireless message from and to ships.

Smyth, Officer Commanding tho Canterbury Military District, returned yesterday from Blenheim, where he was present at tho inspection of the Marlborough- Senior Cadets by General Sir lan Hamilton. Colonel Smyth and Mrs Smyth and farailv will leave by tho Ruahine, sailing "from Wellington next Thursday, for England. ...
The Rev. J. D. Jones, the celebrated Euglish Congregational preacher, and ex-chairman of tho Congregational Union of England and Wales, is making a tour of Australasia, and will arrive in New Zealand next week. Mr Jones will spend a few days in Cliristchutcli, including one Sunday, towards tho ond of next month. -
Mr S. Saunders, who has 1 filled the post of Editor* of the "Lyttelton Times" with conspicuous ability for 23, years, will retire from that post on Juno 13th, when ho will be succeeded by Mr M. L. Reading. Mr Edward Saunders, who has been" associate-editor of the paper during tho last five years, will take the position of chief-of-staff. Mr S. Saunders succeeded Mr W. P. Reeves vi 1891, when thoiattor became'a Minister of the Crown.
Lust evening. at tho Sydenham Police Station, Mts Baird, wife of Constablo W. R. Baird, was presented with a colonial travelling rug for herself and a cheque for her children. In making tho presentation, Mr G. B. Good said tho gifts were a small token of respect from a number of the Sydenham people to Constable Baird and family, on the occasion of his transfor to tho West Coast after many years' service n Sydenham.
