Mr W. Devonish Meares moved: - '"'That the Government bo requested to advertise weekly, on a fixed day, in the local papers, the names oi nov.subscribers to the telephone system; also such alterations as were made during the pn'vious week; also that a certain amount of apace be left after each letter in the telephono directory for tho insertion of the names of new fcubscribors."

Mr Mcares said that at present subscribers might have to wait three months before getting on tho supplementary liist and six months before getting on the principal list. Mr A. Kaye, who seconded tho moiion, referred to the good work performed by the telephone operators at tho Christchurch Exchange.

Mr It. C. Bishop was re-elected tho Chamber's representative on tho Board of Governors of tho Technical College.
