OPINION DIVIDED

OBJECTS OF TRADE UNION

FEDERATION.

SYDNEY VIETCv

(By Cable—Press Association.— Copj-ricHU SYDNEY, May 28.

Various views arc - expressed by Unionists regarding the new Federation of Trade Unions.

In one direction it is claimed that it is merely a political move as a preludo to an early dissolution of the Federal Parliament-.

Another opinion is that, if the wholething ran be accepted at its face value, it is really a fine accomplishment, bringing into line the. whole union movement in New South Wales, and should make for permanent industrial peace.

Dissentient nuionists declare that the fact that the Federation decided not to send a delegate to the New Zealand Federation of Labour Conference is clear proof that the leaders of the Federation have no wish to become mixed' up with the Dominion Red Federation. If the Federation ■were in earnest, it would nob bo ashamed to meet the New Zealand unions.

One added: ''They are not in earnest, and they kuow the Dominion men will soon find that out."

.Employers are loth to express an opinion until something more definite is known as to the Federation's intentions. Tho general opinion scorns to be that the idea of one bis union will bo favoured by tho employers, as it will precludo a constant sourco of annoyance :o employers in having to negotiate with many different bodies.

One employer summarised tho situation thus: "I believe we shall have- one big fight so as to permanently settle all these things."
