MEETING- OF EXECXJTTv*E.
The Management Committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union met last evening. Present :—Messrs F. T. Evana (chairman), L. Corbatt, S. F. "Wilson, C. S. Hassell, A. K. Baker, A. E. McPhail, A. E. Byrno, C. Evans, F. D. Keateven, E. E. Cwvshaw, and C. W. Hervey (secretary).
Tho Wanganui Union telegraphed offering £33 for a match with tho touring Canterbury team. Manawatu also , wrote extending an invitation for a match at Palmerston, pointing out that tho last match was played at Chriatchurch, and it was intended to send » team to tour the South Island next eeason, if possible. Both communications were referred to tho special sub-committee set up to go into the Question of deciding the itinorary o£ tho Canterbury team on ita northern tour. Permission was granted tbe Chiiatcnuich Club to play its. President's Cnp team, which had a byo in the competition, against Prebbleton on Saturday. ilz H. C. Wilson, president of the North Canterbury Club, wrote asking that enquiry be made into tho personnel 01 the Merivale Fourth Grade team which played againat tho North Canterbury Fourth Grade on Saturday, May 23rd. It was stated that there appeared to bo several President's Cup players and juniors taking part. It was resolved to send the list of names banded to tho referee to tho club, and ask thorn to point out any players not graded aa iourth class, and also to explain that thero was another player with whom tho player they mentioned in their letter had evidently been confused.
A circular letter was received from the N.Z.R.U. etating that tbe annual interisland match would bo played at Wellington on Juno 20th. Tho names of tho selected players must bo received not later than June 10th, and it was suggested that nominations bo in before Juno 4th. It was pointed out that the selectors were not restricted to choosing representatives from players nominated by unions. It had also baen resolved to ask playera taking part in tho interisland match whether they would bo prepared! to go to Australia, with the Now Zealand representative team. Tbe letter was referred to tho Selection Committee,
The secretary of the North Canterbury Public Schools' Amateur Athletic Associivtion wrote_ applying for footballs for the schools which had entered for the competitions, and it was decided to write to the N.Z.R.U., asking for the grant to schools agreed upon at tho annual meeting of tho delegates. The Buller Union wrote thanking Canterbury for its offer of a guarantee for a match with a Buller representative team at Christchurch, and 6tat"ng that tho matter was being held over until the itinerary was being arranged.
The Hurunui Sub-union telegraphed asking if a Canterbury team would play in that district on June 13th, as iho Kaikoura fixture would have to be altered if so.
Mr Crawshaw brought up the question of playing tho Old Boyß-Merivale match on Juno 20th. the date of the inter-island game, as both teams would probably bo weakened by the absence of a few players at tho Wellington fixture. The matter was referred to the Competitions Committee to consider the possibility of altering tho date of the local fixture.
It -was also resolved to reply lo tho Hurunui Sub-Unioii that it was impossible io send a team on Jtmo 13th, owing to the Pikl benefit, but tbe question of arranging a match later was being considered. Regarding the Union's request that the La wood Club should contribute £2 10s. towards the cost of extra grounds, the club wrote pointing out that, owing to its having paid for a ground and a half in the peat, it considered other clue* should tot their ahare of the amount. The letter was referred' to the Competitions Committee. The Otago Rugby Union wrote confirrninrj September 12t"i as the date for tbe representative match Canterbury ▼. Otago. st Christohurch.
Tho secretary of the Ashburton County Rugby Union wrote asking- for a ruling on the Spnngbum v. Methven match in the senior oompetHxoa, played at Methven and won by the latter by a try to nil. The game was started earlier than was expected owing to the ©everity of the weather, consequently the Union referee was not present in time. The teams procured the frorvices of a local player (not a, Union referee). He officiated for the first, epcll, and owing to objections to his decisions ho retired, and tho Union referee, who was then present. took his place and saw the game out. It was in the second spell just before time that the score was gained. It was asked if referees could be changed in the middle of. the game, and was the game null and void, or did it stand as played? The Springburn Club's protest was forwarded giving tho points on which the result was disputed. It was resolved to inform tho Ashburton Union that, in view of the circumstances, the change in referees was permissible, and the result of the match must stand.
Mr Kestcven urged that a hell be rung at the time for starting matches at Lancaster Parlr, to bring the team 6 out to time, and it was decided to attend to tho matter this week. " . .
A motion of condolenoe with Mr J. F. Peake in his recent bereavement was passed. It was decided 'to set up a cub-committee, consisting of the Competitions and Selection Committees, to .consider the question oi country fixtures and the financial position relative thereto.
