RANGIORA FIRE BRIGADE.
ANNUAL MEETING
The fortieth annual meeting of the Rangiora Volunteer Fire Brigado toolplace on Monday evening, fncro were present twenty members, under Superintendent A. H. Tyler.; lifo honorary members, J. Smith, A. J. Miller, and W. T. Wilson; the Revs. F. P. Fendall and T. Miller; tho Mayor, Mr C. I. Jennings, and several councillors and townspeople. Representatives from the Kaiapoi and Southbrook Fire Brigades were also present. • '
The financial stalemeut shoved the receipts to be £56 Is 6d, being Borough Council ordinary grant and .special grant for uniforms; tho expenditure was £64 13s 2d. showing a debit of £8. lis §d. Tho year started with a debit of £11 6s od, and considering the heavy expenditure,'this was thought satisfactory. The report stated that tho Brigade had its lull complement of*members; two resignations had been received, one being Fireman A. J. Miller,' after 26 years of service- and tho' other Fireman A. R. Carter, with ten years' service. At tho U.F.B.A. Conierenco at Akaroa, Foreman W. J. Ford was presented with his 25 years' eervieo gold star., There had only been three fire alarms during the year, viz., a shod belonging to Mr Seifort, the cottage of Mr It. V. Morgan, and <an incipient fire in the timber and planing mills. The annual social ihad been a great success, resulting in'a profit of £16 16s id. 'Thanks were duo to all who had assisted in various ways, also those who had contributed to tho funds.
A letter of thanks for the voluntary services of the Brigado was•-received from _tho Borough Council. Fireman L. Hill presented the Brigado with an enlarged portrait of, tho delegates it the Akaroa conference. The officers olocted at tho last meeting were confirmed, and Fireman P. J. Coates was ejected secretary.
An adjournment was then made for the annual supper, during which the following service honours were presented by the Mayor, Mr C. I. Jennings: Three years' certificate to Firemen A. Hendy and A. Palmer; fivo years' service medals to Firemen C.L. Prestney, C- W. Tyler, and L. Hill; two years' additional service bars to Engineer.'Au Prestney (completing 13 years). Fireman H. D. Bettger (13 years), J. H. Coates (7 years), and P. J. Coates (7 years).
After supper a full toast list was gone through and duly honoured. In proposing tho toast of tho Mayor and Borough. Council, the Superintendent said the time was ripe for a highwater pressure system, and tho Mayor stated that the question might be favourably considered when the electric power system comes in ? and could be utilised for the power ot pumping water for a tower service.
During the evening a gold pendant, in tho shape of a fireman's helmet, was presented to Fireman A. J. Miller, for his long. connexion with the Brigade, and a framed portrait of the members of the Brigade was presented to Councillor; R. H. Walker for his services in the capacity of chairman of the Council's JFire Brigade Commifteo.
