ASHBURTON STOCK MARKET.

There was a largo attendance at the weekly stock sale held at the liuwaia yards" yesterday, when the entry of fat sheep'and lambs was tho largest for'some considerable time Dast. lne yarding totalled 7631 as against tflM last week at the Ashburton. yasds, and included 1413--fat ewes. 34S fat wethers, arid 5890 fat lambs, the increase being chiefly amongst lambs; while the yaxdi""g of fat ewes was more than double that of last week. The quality of the yarding was much better than previous sales, and with freezing buyers' operating freely, there was a keen deinanu, and with the exception of a few small hues of lanibs, every lot, submitted was sold by auction, or privately immediately, after the sale, Fat ewes made up

to 21s 3d, fat wethers to 245, and fat lambs to 20s. The following was the range of prices obtained:—Prime butchers', ewes 17s to 19s Id, "extra heavy 21s 3d, medium weights 15s to 16s 10d, light and unfinished lis 7d to 14s 9d, prime butchers' wethers 20s to 245, medium weights 17s 8d to 18s 9d, othera 16s Id to 16s 6d, prime freezers' lambs 18s to 20s, medium weights 16s : to 17s lOd, others 15s 9d. • There was a very small yarding of stores, which totalled 1288, as against 2do* the ■ previous week, and included 500 hoggets,' 226 wethers, the balance being ewes. There seemed to bo a: slight improvement in the demand, only one line of merino wethers being passed at 10s 3d, The principal sales were:—34 four : and sixtooth halfbred wethers 17s, 98 threequarterbred mixed sex hoggets lis 7d,' if* d ™ 14s ' 32 at 15r *M, 106 do. 10s 3d. 329 two and four-tooth threequarterbred wethers 18s, 147. two, four, and , six-tooth three-qnarterbred ewes * 7s 6d, 38 cull mixed sex lambs 6s 3d. Of the cafcUo yarded, fat heifers made £6 os to £7 10s. fat steers £8 to £8 os, fat cows £8 10s. heifers in calf £3 10s to £4 10s, store steers £3 to £-5, smaller sorts £1 15s to £2 ss, cow in profit £4 12s 6d.
