NO CAUSE FOR ALARM AT VERA. CRUZ.

WASHINGTON, May 25. Reports have been received f|-om Niagara Falls that tho Mediation Conference has reached a basis on which the United States and Mexico will be able to reach a settlement.

Mr Bryan has received mee-iages through the Spanish Ambassador indicating that there is no cause for alarm through the activity of Mexicans around Vera Cruz. The United States agreed that no aeroplanes would pass oyer tho Mexican's lives while hostilities were suspended.

The War Department has decided not to withdraw the battleships from, Mexican waters until the possibility of war disappears.
