(PRESB ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, May 25. • The following is the. High Commissioner's market report, dated London May 23rd (Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, sire the average market prices on spot):— "
Mutton. —Trade is fair, but prospects aro rather less encouraging, on account of heavy stocks on hand. are becoming more anxious to realise. There is a dull saje for heavy carcases of mutton. Canterbury 4jkl per lb for lightweights; North Island 4jd. Lamb.—Tho market is firm, with an improved demand. Canterbury, two's, 6 5-16 d; heavy weights, fours, 6 l-16d; other than Canterbury, 6jd. Beef.—The weather has lately been unfavourable to the sale of beef, and there is less demand. New Zealand hinds 4ld per lb, fores 3}d, chilled hinds s .id. fores 3{d.
Butter.—The market is steady, and prices are well maintained. Danish, quiet, per cwt 113s to lUis; New Zealand, firm, 106s to 108s; unsalted, 114s to 116s; Australian, quiet. 100s to I04s; Argentine, quiet. 100s to 102s; Siberian, steady. 98s to 102s; Irish creamery, slow, 107s to 110s. Cheese. —The market is quiet. Caniflinn. quiet, per cwt 58s to 70s; New Zealand, steady demand, white 59s to 60s. coloured 62s 6d to 63s 6d; Australian, white 57s to 58s, coloured 59s o (ils.
Hemp.—The market is quiet, with a general fooling of uneasiness on account of heavy receipts from Manila. Good to fair grade, per ton. £26 10s; fair grade, £23 10s; Juno to August ship ments, good to fair grade, £27; fair grade, £24. Manila.—Fair current, per, ton, £26 10s; June to August shipments, £27. The output from Manila for tho week wa5.20,000 bales.
