Tho Farmers' Union has called a public meeting for Saturday eveniug nest, when the matter of public saleyards for Waiau will bo fully gone into and a decision arrived at.

The committee of the llailway League met on Saturday evening, Mr W. Gale presiding. Mr G. W. Forbes, M.P., intimated that he considered the first sod should bo turned at tho Culverden end, as the work would commence there, and the Hon. Aj> no reply Lad been received from the Minister to the League's letter. it was decided to send a copy of the letter to Mr Forbes, intimating that tho matter would be left entirely to the Minister and himself to arrange. Mr and Mrs A. J. Sunckell provided afternoon tea for the Cheviot and Waiau football teams on Saturday also for the spectators. The visiting team was entertained by the local club at dinner.
