GENERAL HAMPTON AT WELLINGTON.
(PRESS ASSOCUTIOX TE-EGRAM.) WELLINGTON May 24. Yesterday General Sir lan Hamilton inspected 1500 Cadets and about 70 Rißb Club men, at Newtown Park. The weather was gloriously fine, though the ground was very sodden after three weeks' almost ceaseless rain. In spite of the slippery ground, however, the Cadets acquitted themselves very creditably, and the march past was executed in good style. Afterwards tho Cadets gave a short exhibition of physical drill. Sir lan Hamilton addressed the parade, congratulating the boys on the good work done, which was as good as lie had seen anywhere. "It is splendid." ho said, "to think that the work which you boys are doing will keep New Zealand safe for at least a generation-•*•- ■■,'_•■ * Finally the General presented the challenge cup- provided out of the funds raised by Mrs Godley for the best marksmen among the Cadets. About 7000 or 8000 people witnessed the review, and frequently applauded the Cadets during the progress of the manoeuvres.
