As twenty persons were crossing tho gang-plank of a steamer, tho plank broke, and men, women, and children were precipitated into tho Hudson. Two wero drowned, three aro missing, and three are in hospital.
Ono roan, -after"failing to rescue a friend's child, becamo temporarily insane.
Tho accident was duo to overcrowding. As the last whistle was blown, the shore visitors hurried ott, and belated steerage passengers rushed aboard. The weight was too great, and tbo plank broke.
Members of tho crew dived into the water to effect rescues, but tho tide carried off the bodies.
