AN AMBITIOUS PROGRAMME,

Mr Holman, addressing the Labour Council, outlined the Government's programme, consisting of seventy Rills including a State market gardens, fisheries; iron-works, timber will, fire insurance, a universal eight-hours day, tho abolition of one-man control of the railways, a Fair Rents Bill, a crusade against consumption, an amended Industrial Arbitration Act, and legislation towards reducing the cost of living.
3lr Holman frankly, declared himself a Socialist, and said ho desired to do something more practical than' merely to wear the red tie.
Regarding the Meat Trust, he declared that if it came, he would settle it within twentyrfcur hours. The proposed State F'r© Insurance and Fisheries Departments would be on the New Zealand* lines. The crusade against consumption would include -"j.otj,ficatio_ without publicity.
