GERMAN STEAMER SERVICE TO NEW ZEALAND.
OPINION IN SYDNEY
By Cable.—Pre»« Association.—Copyright.)
SYDNEY, May 2-2
Interviewed respecting tho London cablegram that the Norddeutschc.r Lloyd Company proposed to extend its operations to Now Zealand, shipping men expressed doubt, roiuting to tho tact that since the company was. only able, with a subsidy of £2.30.000, to run a monthly service between Australia and Europe at a loss, it teemed obvious that an extension to New Zealand, which was already,' served by steamers via the Cape, was not a commercial proposition. It was suggested., however, that the movement might be part of German policy in tho development of the deep-sea carrying trade.
