Mr E. W. Shanahan (Auckland and Christrhurch) who has been in this country for the last three years, is now ! residing at Southport, Lancashire, where he has acquired an interest in a j large private sciiool. Miss V. Sapsford (Christchurch) has gone through to the English Lake District. She will be travelling about until August, when the return journey will be made by the North German steamer Gncisnau. The Rev. Canon Burton has been ; giving a. series of Lent sermous at his I old church of St. Saviour's, St. Aibans. :On Sunday last he warned the congrei nation against the disloyalty of at- ' tending the services of the-. Miss Ro.sinn Buckman lias been staying iv Paris as the guost of Madame Melba, and is now hard at work in London preparing for her appearance at CoveitL Garden next week, .vlelba sincl Miss Buckman will both appear in "La Boheme" on Monday, and Miss Buckman will also appear next in 'Die Walkiiro" and "Parsifal." - Mr H. J. Marriner' (Sumne'r) is on tlio Continent, having lauded at Naples. Mrs Murriner and her son cam« on by the Ziefcen, and are now in London. During her stay here, Mrs Marriner hopes to see something of the working of the Royal Life-Saving Society, also of the Mothers' Union. Presently she will go to Colerne, near Bath, to Stay with her brother-in-law, the Rev. H. H. Stephens. In the quarterly examination list of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh', aiui the lioya.l Fneulty of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, the name' of Walter Granville Carew ( Dunedin) appears as Jiarinjr-.passed the first examination. Richard Dorset and Frank Davidson Johnson, both of New Zealand, hare got through the final examination., and now are entitled, to the fol'nivitijj distinctions:— L.R.C.P.E., L.R.C.S.E., • L R.F.P. S.G. • -The Rev.. J. Gibson Smith '(.Wellington) is in so much better health now that he contemplates a run through Italy and France before going to Scotland. His wife is with him, also his niece (Miss Dorothy Gibb (Melbourne), and.,her guardian, Miss Brndsbaw. Miss Gibb will stay for some time in order to continue her musical studies. Mr Gibson Smith was delighted to meet, quite 'unexpectedly in London, his old friend Mr Wilson, one time Rector of the Boys' High Sciiool, Dunedin, who looks wonderfully well. The Hon. G. Fowlds' and Miss Fowlds came to-Europe by Suez, and, leaving the steamer at- tiie latter port, spent an interesting roonth or two in Egypt and Palestine. They "then crossed to Naples and proceeded in a. manner through Italy, .Austria/ aiid Germany, Mr..;Fowlds'paying special attention to educational matters in those countries. Mr Fowlds expects to be in England, dividing his time between . business and pleasure, until July. They will'tour the provinces by motor, and will return home by way of Vancouver.
