WESTLAND VALUATIONS.

(PUE33 ASSOCIATION" TELEGRAM.) HOKITIKA, May 22. A sitting of the Assessment Court to deal with objections to valuation in the Westland County was held to-day. The County Council has objected to a large number of valuations made by the Government Valuer on the grounds that the values are too low. The Court was crowded with sot-, tiers and others. After counsel for the County had opened, Mr W. Organ (Wellington), on behalf of the Government Valuation Department, raised the point that the County objections were not made in time. Couneel for the County held that the Valuation Department waived the date of closing in the course -of lengthy correspondence that had taken place between tho County Council and the ValuerGeneral. The Court adjourned till to-morrow, to enable tho County Council to 'communicate with the Minister in charge of fcha Valuation Department.
