OTAGO LABOUR COUNCIL.
ITS POLITICAL PLATFORM. (miSS ASSOCIATION TEIiGIUJI.) DUNEDIN, May 22. At a meeting of tbo Otago Labour Council last night, methods were adopted for nominating Labour candidates, and tho political platform was also adopted. Among its planks tire the following:—lncrease in the graduated land tax and graduated incomo ta.\, based od eeirntifio principles, with a supertax on all unearned incomes; a graduated absentee tax;- the total abolition of Customs duties on all necessaries •which .cannot be produced in the ; restriction in compulsory training to males between the ages of 11 aJid 21; a reduction in military expenditure by increasing the facilities for training citizen volunteers over '••! years of age; the prevention of tho use of the Arbitration Act to form bogus unions; the Arbitration Court to deliver judgments when making awards: agreements arrived at by Councils of Conciliation to bo accepted wholly by tho Arbitration Court and made into awards, except such provisions as arc in conflict with th»» statute law; further, to make if mandatory that thi> Arbitration Court shall mako an award in every industrial dispute brought bofore it: deletion of tho pecuniary ca\n clause to enable all wage-earners lo have their conditions reviewed by tho Arbitration Court; full recognition of unionism as tho basis of arbitration in industrial law and the consequent membership of all mea engaged in an industry.
